Abstract
Craig Marks and Rob Tannenbaum, co-authors of the book I Want My MTV: the Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution, discuss the role MTV played in augmenting the cultural impact of music videos from 1981-1992. Specific topics include how videos were selected for air, MTV's evolution away from airing videos and artists' reaction to it, how ideas for videos were concocted, what role videos play in today's music climate and can play into the future, and lessons to be learned from MTV's business success during that era.
