Abstract
Filmed in a clinical setting, this program demonstrates how to operate a bedside cardiac monitor, a central station monitor, and a portable heart monitor. The video begins with a step-by-step walk-through of bedside monitor setup and troubleshooting—attaching the electrodes to the patient, obtaining a clear waveform, setting the alarm, recording a baseline rhythm strip, waveform problems such as 60-cycle interference and wandering baseline, and how to respond to the alarm—and concludes with how to program patient information into the central station and how to tether the portable heart monitor in a telemetry pouch. Reviewed for accuracy in 2008.
