Abstract
The friendships that are formed during adolescence provide teenagers with some of their fondest memories. Friendships can also influence individuals to do things that they normally wouldn’t do. Actions that all too often have negative and far-reaching consequences. This informative video utilizes testimonials from students to examine the topic of adolescent peer pressure. It begins by focusing on the detrimental effects that occur by doing something only to be part of the crowd, losing self-control to the group, personal values conflicts, and being judged by the actions of the group. Positive self-esteem and personal decision-making are emphasized as effective methods for dealing with negative peer pressure. Students learn the importance of making their own decisions, setting positive goals that are also realistic, and weighing the consequences of hasty actions. They will also see that the positive feelings acquired by making the right decisions are far greater than the hurt associated with peer group rejection.
