NJEDge.Net Update, LISP, Virtualization Update and Community Cloud
Abstract
George Laskaris - NJEDge.Net Update – Strategic Plan Implementation, major network upgrade, VMware program a great success, recent bids, edge networks, working groups, and new initiatives: VMware Community Cloud Project and New Network Protocol – LISP
James Stankiewicz – LISP (Locator/ID Separation Protocol) is “a new, address-family-agnostic routing architecture that implements a new semantic for addressing that creates two namespaces: Endpoint Identifiers (EIDs), which are the current addresses assigned to end-hosts today, and Routing Locators (TLOCs), which are the addresses assigned to devices (primarily routers) that make up the global routing system.” Examples of LISP advantages are Cloud-Based Routing, Load Balancing, and help solve disaster recovery initiatives.
David Ullman - Virtualization Update and Community Cloud Development, Cloud services, to be shared for higher education, are based on virtualization. Virtualization solves the problem of servers fall. By building a computational cluster of computation and storage capacity and then defining a series of virtual machines on that cluster which are easy to deploy, and you can bring up or down servers as needed. New concepts to be discussed are virtual organizations and virtual apps that enables Multi-Tenant shared clouds, all lying on a physical underlining infrastructure.
