Abstract
Although material rewards can motivate people, such rewards don't usually represent the strongest motivational force. Many companies have redesigned jobs to challenge their employees. A number of companies have also tapped new sources of employee motivation by revising old notions of managerial control. Employees who feel in control and creatively involved in their work often feel they have a stake in the company, which can motivate the highest level of job performance.
