Abstract
Created for nurses who are learning to assist bedridden or incapacitated individuals, this detailed program explores ways to maximize a patient's dignity, comfort, safety, and nutritional needs during mealtimes. Overviewing the main types of hospital diets (clear liquid, full liquid, soft, and regular), the video illustrates methods for positioning the meal tray, arranging food and utensils, cross-checking meal items with the dietary indications, helping with hand-washing and other hygiene tasks, and addressing special needs such as limited vision or paralysis. Viewers will also learn how to fine-tune other skills, such as noticing patient responses to certain foods, building a patient's feeling of control, and more. Reviewed for accuracy in 2008.
