Abstract
Altruism in society is revealed through the donations given to charities in times of need. We seek to help others in desperate circumstances by donating money, typically in person or online. Unfortunately, there are those who choose to exploit the good nature of donators by channeling profits into their own hands. In this episode of Scammed, we encounter two different charity fraud schemes: a fake disaster relief Web site that receives donations and then funnels them into criminal accounts; and a case in which one individual pretends to have cancer in order to collect donations for personal use. While preying in these ways upon the good will of others, such heinous acts also tend to tarnish the reputations or inhibit the efforts of legitimate charitable organizations truly working to help those in dire need. Some content may be objectionable. Viewer discretion is advised.
