Abstract
Johannes M. Bauer is a professor in the Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media at Michigan State University. During the 2014 Merit Member Conference, Bauer spoke on the importance of an open and non-discriminatory Internet as a precondition for realizing its full benefits for society. The net neutrality debate is one of several critically important discussions that will determine the future organization of the Internet. Its outcomes have potentially far-reaching repercussions for the Internet ecosystem and users.
