About this title: This film investigates the serious threats to one of our most treasured natural resources. Grasslands cover almost one-third of the Earth's surface, house nearly a billion people, and are in grave danger of disappearing. It shows the devastating environmental, political, and economic effects of the degradation of the world's grasslands, which make up 30 percent of Earth's land surface. Journeys to Inner Mongolia, Kenya, South Africa, Argentina, and the American West. This title is an abridged version of the original film.

About the series: The programs in the Journey to Planet Earth series explore the fragile relationship between people and the world they inhabit. A common thread runs throughout all the programs: the necessity to achieve a balance between the needs of people and the needs of the environment. Topics covered in the series include the loss of farmland to urban development, the pollution of the Earth's rivers, and inadequate housing and water resources for those living in the world's mega-cities
