Abstract
About this title: This film takes a comprehensive look at why nearly half the world's marine animals may face extinction over the next twenty-five years. It examines the disappearance of many of the ocean's animals. Case studies focus on global issues including climate change, sea-level rise, over-fishing and habitat destruction, and the effects on the emperor penguin in Antarctica; sea turtles at Melbourne Beach, Florida; salmon at Klamath River, Oregon; and sea otters in Monterey Bay, California.
About the series:The programs in the Journey to Planet Earth series explore the fragile relationship between people and the world they inhabit. A common thread runs throughout all the programs: the necessity to achieve a balance between the needs of people and the needs of the environment. Topics covered in the series include the loss of farmland to urban development, the pollution of the Earth's rivers, and inadequate housing and water resources for those living in the world's mega-cities
