Improving Synthetic, Laboratory and Instrumental Skills via a Series of Organic Synthetic and Nanomaterial Projects in the Instrumental Analysis Labs
Abstract
The development of a series of project-based labs that improved laboratory skills while teaching concepts of modern instrumentation and analytical chemistry will be discussed. These projects introduce students to contemporary issues in pharmaceutical and material science while emphasizing the blended use of diverse technologies (internet, literature searching and instrumentation). Bio: Dr. Kenneth Yamaguchi is a faculty member at New Jersey City University for the past 20 years and is currently the department chairperson. He holds a PhD. in analytical chemistry from the University of California, Riverside and has taught a variety of courses within the department from introductory to senior-level courses. Bio: Bumjung Kim is an assistant professor in the chemistry department at New Jersey City University. Dr. Kim has more than eight years of research experience in material science and organic electronics. He holds B.S. in chemistry from Hanyang University, Seoul, and received a Ph.D in material science/chemistry from Columbia University, New York.
