Jerome Krase Collection

This digitized collection of photographs is a part of the collection, The Papers of Professor Jerome Krase, found within the Brooklyn College Archives and Special Collections. Jerome Krase is a noted sociologist, author and social advocate who was a professor of sociology at Brooklyn College from 1970 to 2003. Krase was one of the founders of both the Urban Studies Program and Italian-American Studies Institute at Brooklyn College.

The photographs here are primarily of Italian Americans and Italian American neighborhoods in Brooklyn that were originally displayed as part of a May 1982 exhibition called “The Italians of Brooklyn: Past and Present.” The exhibit was the culmination of a photography project for Brooklyn College’s Center for Italian American Studies. You will find a variety of collected photographs of early twentieth century Italian Immigrant families as well as documentation of neighborhoods in Brooklyn through the early 1980s.
